ESI Active Material products encompass the followings:

HASCO Fabrics (Heating-Actuating-Sensing Composite)

These state-of-the-art electro-active smart composites provide three main functions: Heating, Actuation and Sensing. The provided heat can vary between 30°C and 70°C. Actuation refers to shape-shifting and variable compliance patterns of the HASCO material that can be custom-set at the manufacturing stage. The composite can be produced in any size and shape. It can be also combined with embedded micro-sensors.

NECSUS (Neck-Support-Systems)

This state-of-the-art electro-active cervical support device (NECSUS) is invaluable for subjects potentially exposed to acute cervical pain and injuries while performing strenuous activities. Self-tuning adaptive compliance of the circumferentially distributed support elements embedded into a comfortable wearable garment provides the desired neck support in flexion/extension postures of the user's head.

iBra - Interactive Bra

Adaptive-compliance smart material based interactive bra technologies provide optimal protection during prolonged usage periods. The new bra consists of special fabrics embedded into the bra's cups and straps which generate feedback information for "just-right" automatic compression adjustment in real-time.

iSeal - Sealant Ring/Tube

The iSeal adaptable sealant consists of a composite material which expands upon application of heat and
then permanently retains the expanded shape. This light and flexible sealant material is inserted into a gap of any shape or geometry (e.g., a radial gap). Available as a flexible cord at any length from 1 cm to several meters. Under the normal temperature conditions, the sealant cord is almost flat and can be fitted into the radial gap either by a soft-tip tool or hand.

TACTOR Devices

Using its Dielectric Elastomer Transducer (DET) and associated Dual Controller-Sensor (DUCOS), ESI develops a range of vibrotactile actuators (TACTOR) that convey the sense of feel to a person. Small TACTOR actuators can be strategically positioned on the user's body/head and their stimuli intuitively interpreted to help a person navigate.

Modeling & Simulation

To optimize performance and functionality of active-materials based devices, they must be modeled and analyzed. Neck Injury Prevention Expert System (NIPES) developed by ESI systematically analyzes the effects of variations in physical and mechanical properties of prototype active material devices (e.g, NECSUS). NIPES uses our proprietary Expert System Integrated Development Environment (ESIDE®) that allows seamless integration with AutoCAD®, Simulink®, Dymola, Modelica, experimental data models, and Finite Element Models (FEM). NIPES models head/neck biomechanics in 3D, designs prototype NECSUS, provides 3D visualization and animation.
