This state-of-the-art electro-active cervical support device (NECSUS) is invaluable for subjects potentially exposed to acute cervical pain and injuries while performing strenuous activities. Self-tuning adaptive compliance of the circumferentially distributed support elements embedded into a comfortable wearable garment provides the desired neck support in flexion/extension postures of the user's head. A custom-designed integrated microcontroller (MCU) allows the user to calibrate and optimize the individual support level.

Features of NECSUS device are as follows:

  • Elastic modulus variation of up to 4 times when fully activated
  • Consists of three individually controllable regions distributed for optimized "as-needed" protection of multi-directional motion of the neck
  • Provides heat to the cervical region for promoting enhanced blood circulation and alleviating fatigue
  • Integrated smart sensors for monitoring cervical muscle activities and fine-tuning the support required in real-time
  • MCU processor with integrated intelligent support algorithm can utilize user-specific optimal calibration settings
  • User control box with LCD display for setting desired support levels
  • Intelligent algorithm for calibration of the device when worn by different subjects
  • Comfortable and highly permeable proprietary cervical support collar with a soft liner
  • Plug-in power cable for using external power sources
  • No attachment or contact to the user's face or head
  • LED indicator of battery status
