These state-of-the-art electro-active smart composites provide three main functions: Heating, Actuation and Sensing. The provided heat can vary between 30°C and 70°C. Actuation refers to shape-shifting and variable compliance patterns of the HASCO material that can be custom-set at the manufacturing stage. The composite can be produced in any size and shape. It can be also combined with embedded micro-sensors. Examples of embedded sensors include: temperature, pressure, strain, vibration, bending, etc.
Feature of the HASCO fabrics are as follows:
- Sensing, heating, adaptive shape, and variable compliance capabilities Built using a combination of proprietary and commercially available smart material technologies
- Can be fabricated either in the form of flexible and permeable fabrics, or in the form of laminated polymer sheets
- Actuation occurs due to either external (ambient) or internal heat source
- Bandwidth, strain and force can be all custom-defined and fine-tuned during design and manufacturing stages
- Can be connected to a computer for real-time monitoring and actuation via a USB cable or wireless connection
Applications of HASCO:
- Consumer products: smart adaptive garments for health and fitness industries, home healthcare, rehabilitation, sport medicine
- Government: military (soldiers, support personnel in battlefield), space programs, public safety (fire-fighting, law enforcement)
- Industrial: automotive, protective textiles (not fashion related), shock absorbing garments, adverse exposure protection textiles
- Fashion: home decorations, interactive shape-shifting clothing
